Planning for a Healthy Humboldt future
Your voice is needed to prevent uncontrolled development (aka sprawl) from polluting our waterways and hurting Humboldt Bay. Our choices in the General Plan Update will determine whether we protect our waterways with good land use policy, or create a blueprint for sprawl that sends runoff from new development and increased stormwater pollution into the Bay.
Luckily, the Board of Supervisors already directed the planning staff and commission to follow Guiding Principles that include “unambiguous natural resource protections, especially for open space, water resources, water quality, scenic beauty, and salmonids.” We need the Supervisors and Planning Commission to uphold these directives to promote a healthy future for us all!
Humboldt Baykeeper is a member of the Healthy Humboldt Coalition, working to promote a future that is healthy for us all through a strong General Plan Update. Specifically, we believe the General Plan Update should include provisions to:
* Protect Watersheds and Wetlands Areas
* Reduce Stormwater Pollution * Focus Development For Clean Water * Maintain Floodplains * Restore Threatened And Impaired Water Bodies
