Storm Water Pollution
Polluted runoff from both urban development and industrial sites is
another significant problem affecting Humboldt Bay. California’s
Regional Water Quality Control Boards are grossly under funded, and
often find it difficult to monitor storm water runoff effectively.
Throughout the Humboldt Bay Watershed, numerous existing storm water
discharges are occurring without permits and are causing serious
pollution. Humboldt Baykeeper plans to work collaboratively with local
and regional entities to identify and monitor the storm water outfalls
into Humboldt Bay with the hope of minimizing this major source of
pollution.
