First Flush 2006
On November 3, 2006, over twenty volunteers grabbed their
galoshes and braved the rain to gather water samples from 22 sites around Humboldt
Bay. The goal: to assess water quality as the first significant rainfall of the
year washes a summer's worth of accumulation towards the Bay.
The
samples from First Flush were analyzed for nine different parameters to
compare with the results from dry-weather samples taken on September
30, 2006. The results for both sampling events are available by
clicking on the parameter names to the right. This data also
contributes to our long-term effort to monitor Humboldt Bay watersheds
and identify changes in water quality.
Humboldt
Baykeeper is still working to interpret our data as it relates to state
and federal water quality standards. Check back soon for a full
report on how our creeks and sloughs measure up for human health and
environmental safety.
