Meetings and Public Input
A series of open house meetings will be held in the North Coast study region to give the public an opportunity to review and comment on Round 2 draft proposals. Draft Marine Protected Area proposals have been developed by a regional stakeholder group from “external arrays” submitted by community groups. The North Coast Region extends from Alder Creek near Point Arena to the Oregon border. Staff and regional stakeholders will be available to answer questions and discuss concerns.
The Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) requires the state to re-examine and re-design California's system of Marine Protected Areas.
Input on the Round 2 draft MPA proposals can also be submitted online or by mail through July 14 for consideration in Round 3 of the MLPA process. Online forms are available for submitting comments to the North Coast Regional Stakeholder Group and Blue Ribbon Task Force at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/mpaproposals_nc.asp. Hard copies of the form are also available at local libraries and government offices, and can be mailed or faxed to the MLPA Initiative office.
