On Sept. 15, Humboldt Baykeeper volunteers and the Humboldt State University Oceanogrpahy Club met to remove trash from the Del Norte Street waterfront in Eureka. In just 3 hours, two dozen volunteers filled more than 100 trash bags, keeping nearly 2,000 pounds of trash from reaching Humboldt Bay and ultimately, the ocean.

Debris removed included 86 plastic bags, hundreds of cigarette butts, and an amazing array of household appliances, food and beverage containers, and discarded clothing.

Thanks to the Northcoast Environmental Center for organizing Coastal Cleanup countywide! And thanks to Teva and our other sponsors, and most of all, thanks to all the volunteers who took the time to help clean up our waterways!
